Expect the Unexpected
If you told me 10 years ago when I was still in high school that I would move to a different island and become a wedding photographer, I probably would’ve laughed and said, “There’s no way.”
I was — and honestly, still am — that shy girl in class. The one who didn’t say much. The one who felt more comfortable staying home with a book than being the center of attention. I never imagined I’d be directing timelines, organizing large groups of people, and capturing one of the biggest days of someone’s life.
Back then, I had no idea what the future would hold. But I did know one thing: I wanted to do something creative with my life. I couldn’t picture myself in a traditional 9–5 job. And if I’m being completely honest, I also wanted to prove people wrong. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do something meaningful with my life — that I didn’t have to stay hidden behind other people’s shadows.
What I didn’t realize was how much growth that dream would require.
Moving to a different island. Meeting new people. Building a business from the ground up. Putting myself out there. Speaking up. Leading. Taking risks. Failing. Learning. Trying again.
None of it felt natural at first. Most of it was uncomfortable.
But growth almost always is.
Fast forward to now — I’m so proud of myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone. For saying yes to opportunities that scared me. For trusting that even if I didn’t have everything figured out, I could learn along the way. And I’m incredibly thankful for my partner, who believed in me during the moments when I struggled to believe in myself.
There’s still so much room to grow. So many ways to be better — as a photographer, as a business owner, and as a person. But I’ve learned that you don’t have to have it all mapped out to move forward.
Sometimes you just have to enjoy the ride.
So if you’re in a season of uncertainty, or dreaming about something that feels bigger than you... take the leap. You never know where it might lead.
Life has a funny way of turning the unexpected into something beautiful. And I’m living proof of that.
